Here's how to check if your carrier supports RCS on iPhone.

Apple released iOS 18 to the public on Monday, bringing with it a new feature: Rich Communications Services (RCS) support in the Messages app. However, RCS support must be enabled by each carrier, and Apple has a page on its website listing carriers that already support RCS on the iPhone.

Apple’s page details carriers that have enabled RCS on the iPhone. Apple has updated its Wireless Carrier Support page to include carriers that support RCS on the iPhone running iOS 18. Since day one, RCS has worked with major carriers in the US like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Several carriers in Canada, Europe, and Asia also support RCS for iOS users.

With RCS, iPhone users can send rich messages with audio and larger media files to Android users.. RCS also has read receipts, which were previously exclusive to iMessage and other instant messaging apps. While RCS messages are still marked with a green bubble, the Messages app will display a “Text Message – RCS” label in conversations.

However, as reported in June, carriers will need to work with Apple to release updated carrier packages to support RCS for their iPhone customers. During the iOS 18 beta period, these updates could only be shipped with new versions of iOS, but that is no longer required. Users can expect more carriers to add RCS support in the coming months.

If you’ve already updated your iPhone to iOS 18, you can try enabling RCS by going to Settings > Apps > Messages. If you don’t see the option, it’s likely that your carrier doesn’t yet support RCS on your iPhone.

iOS 18 is now available to download and requires an iPhone XR or later. You can update your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
